Review of The Entity (1982) by Breanna — 04 Feb 2009
Soundtrack warning: Don't watch this is you have a headache!
The bit I love best is where the parapsychologists look at a photo of an electrical discharge and say, "This bit looks like the outline of a man's head and shoulders. We have proof!".
This is like saying, "I saw a cloud shaped like a man. Therefore there must be men living in the clouds.".
I must say I do wonder how they achieved the shot where we see the impression of invisible fingers fondling Barbara Hershey's breast - this was in the days before CGI, after all.
The film is supposedly based on true events, but we all know what that can mean where Hollywood is concerned. At least it does make a stab at discussing the subjects of hysteria and shared madness, and even considering the need for scientific proof of unexplained phenomena. It isn't really resolved at the end, but make of it what you will...
In any case, it is at least an entertaining adventure.
