Review of The Enchanted Cottage (1945) by Pamela H — 29 Oct 2011
I sob my way through this beautifully written film every time I see it. The music and dialogue are haunting and lovely. This is a beautiful film about how love changes the way we look at each other. It's old, it's hokey and it's hands down the best romance story ever told.
Amazing how it has stood the test of time. Apparently there were plans to remake it in the 1970's with Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young in the older parts but when they viewed it at McGuire's home, she and Young decided that the film should never be remade because it belonged to another era.
I am so glad they made this decision as nothing can top this beautiful film in my estimation. I really wish it were available on dvd.
