Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Knut D — 03 Jun 2009
This movie is a staggering achievement....what a beautiful, heartwrenching and provocative experience. This is now one of my top three Lynch movies and one of my all time favourite films. John Hurt broke my heart into pieces....this has to be one of his best performances...if not THE best.
There's so many great scenes....some are hard to watch...some just breaks your heart....this is a brilliant, bitter-sweet tale about human dignity and survival. And once again I'm reminded that beauty is often hidden deep beneath the surface and that man is the cruelest animal of all. A classic.
