Historical inaccuracies aside, the Elephant Man is a masterpiece. Just saw it for the first time, and I was completely enthralled. How awesome is John Hurt? I don't know if he won anything for this or not, but I've reached the conclusion after the thousands of movies that I've seen that John Hurt deserves a lifetime achievement award in character acting or something.
