Review of The Edge (1997) by Jay L — 09 Oct 2012
"They were fighting over a woman when their plane went down. Now their only chance of survival is each other.".
A brute force and unrelentingly intense action adventure. The Edge is a fully loaded, adrenaline pumping, endlessly entertaining, superbly action packed, ferociously raw and completely absorbing edge of your seat endeaver. Its packed with full throttle, pedal to the medal and extraordinarily intense action sequences that are vast, extensive and utterly breathtaking, the attack sequences are some of the most realistic ever to be put on film, I mean they are truly frightening to witness. This is one of the films that catapulted Director Lee Tamahori's (Next, Once Were Warriors, The Devils Double) career straight into the stratosphere. Tamahori is one of those directors that can be hit or miss with his films, but this one is one of his best films. It helps that David Mamet was involved, a combination of his trademark Mamet speak and his uncanny ability to write impressively intricate storylines really spice this one up. Its filled and jam packed with beautiful set locations and gorgeous cinematography throughout, something about the wilderness in films, something about it hyonotizing to me. Two thumbs for a beautifully directed and solidly crafted tale of the outdoors.
Anthony Hopkins, whats more to say this guy can just flat out act and he is stunning throughout as usual. Alec Baldwin does fantastic throughout as well. Elle Macpherson is great as well.
