Review of The Eagle Has Landed (1976) by Jonathan B — 27 Jul 2008
This film had a lot of promise, but it all fell apart because it did not seem like the producers knew what type of movie they wanted this to be. It had some very good actors and an interesting plot, but it alternated between comedy and action without being able to strike a balance, and the Nazi characters were sugar coated so we would not feel bad rooting for them at times.
Just when the film takes a turn for the more dramatic and violent, Larry Hagman character is introduced and bumbles around for a while and ruins the flow of the movie. Donald Southerland was really funny and about the only consistent character in the entire film.
If you want to see something violent about WWII but that is not a downer, than you should probably check this movie out, but otherwise I would watch something else.
