Review of The Eagle Has Landed (1976) by Terri H — 21 Nov 2008
The last film directed by legendary action director John Sturges, but sadly not one of his best. The novel by Jack Higgins was fairly entertaining, but in a throw-away sort of way, and thus doesn't lead to a very memorable film.
None of the actors, save possibly for Donald Pleasance as Himmler, were very convincing as Germans (perhaps with good reason, as they were all played by Brits, Canadians or Americans...), and a nit-wit American colonel played by Larry Hagman was TOTALLY out of place in what was supposed to be an action film with an element of suspense to it.
If you're a fan of Higgins' novels, I guess you could find this moderately entertaining, but it's probably skippable otherwise.
