Review of The Eagle Has Landed (1976) by Corey N — 09 Oct 2010
This is a WWII movie based off of writer Jack Higgins novel. The "Eagle has Landed" is one of my all time favorite novels. The plot is about German paratroopers who landed in England during WWII, and very nearly succeeded in kidnapping Winston Churchill.
The film has a great story. The movie does start off a bit slow at first but once it gets going into it more it is a fun watch. The film has a great cast with Michael Caine, Donald Sutherland, Robert Duvall, Jean Marsh, Treat Williams and Larry Hagman.
But that is one of the weak points of the film. The cast are all great actors. But they seemed to be the wrong picks for these roles. Only Donald Sutherland, Treat Williams and Jean Marsh seem good for their roles.
Caine and Duvall seem to be the wrong choices for their roles. The story seemed to miss some parts of the book. I liked the movie but it could use some improvements. The book is much better overall than this film.
But I would like to see a remake on this film today. Overall a solid WWII movie. If you enjoy war films then give this a watch.
