Review of The Duellists (1977) by Simon A — 05 Jan 2008
This film looks great for $90,000. Every penny is put up on the screen. It really puts you into that era. You can see why Ridley Scott was hired to direct Alien from watching this film. I really liked the story of the 2 men who are fated to fight each other to the bitter end.
I would of liked to know more about Harvey Keitel's character, but he was the bogey man in this film. Always waiting to pop in the Keith Carradine's character's life. The duels themselves are excellent.
I particularly like the 3rd duel where they knacker themselves out fighting. Also watch out for a who's who of British actors. All who want on to be known in the film industry. So as a first film, what an achievement.
