Review of The Duellists (1977) by James H — 07 Jan 2008
A wonderfully simple character study in honor, pride and strength. All glossed over with some lush cinematography that at times can take the breath away. What does subtract from the film, quite seriously in fact, is the performance of Carradine.
He looks the part, but whenever he speaks, the stilted words that comes out of his mouth nearly made me wince. Kietel is Kietel - you can't take the NYC out of him. Also, look out for a quick cameo from Albert Finney.
The last shot of the film is one of the sublime in all of 70's cinema.
