Review of The Driller Killer (1979) by Sebastian T — 25 Jul 2010
One of the most unusual films ever made. It only becomes kind of a horror film about halfway through, and at that point it does less to "explain" the killer than most movies where the serial killer isn't a surprise twist reveal.
It's really a punk rock movie though, not horror, like Taxi Driver without the stars and Martin Scorsese's direction. Ferrara cuts a striking, weird figure in the lead though, and his moments of calm make him even more shocking then when he's on the prowl for the homeless at night with his 'drill'.
Phallus reference, anyone?
