Review of The Driller Killer (1979) by Glenn C — 31 Jan 2013
An underground artist who shares an apartment with two other girls has to endure all sorts of problems and struggles, which result in all night rampages with a power drill. Ferrara's film is mostly regarded as a cheap slasher film and punished for starting a trend of films unloved by critics.
However, this evaluation is completely unfair. His vision of mental disintegration and urban degradation is a major specimen of a stylish underground and amateurish cinema that coincides with the American New Wave and Warhol's pop art films.
