Review of The Draughtsman's Contract (1982) by Matthew A — 04 Jun 2011
Lavishly mounted tale set in 17th century England is effectively cold and cut to the bone in its telling of an artist who exchanges creativity for sexual favors. Peter Greenaway's left field approach to the story is an acquired taste, but it's darkly humorous in a satirical way.
The performances are on target just like Michael Nyman's jaunty score.
