Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Nesta L — 02 Sep 2009
Part of the beauty of Krzysztof Kieslowski's THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE is in the mystery of the unknown, the other beautiful thing about the film is Irene Jacob; whose performance is angelic in it's subtlety.
This is not quite a simple film to take in, and most likely will take at least two viewings to put into a more full perspective. This film was clearly a big influence on Jean-Pierre Jeunet's AMELIE, but for me, this film is head & shoulders above it because it's less fantastic and more realistic, and less quirky and more understated.
