Review of The Doors (1991) by Alex B — 02 Dec 2011
I disliked this film only because I did not understand Jim Morrison. I watched this again and started to have a change for Morrison an empathy if that makes any sense. The concert scenes and authentic 1960's-70's period detail is the heart of Oliver Stone's "The Doors" but the biggest flaws would have to be well the characters particularly the band mates of The Doors who constantly float in and out of Morrison's life, look as if they're fed up with him and Morrison's antics and the enigmatic character of Jim Morrison played brilliantly by Val Kilmer.
Kilmer performance is the savior of the picture and errily loks like the real artist. Stone was an avid fan of The Doors while serving in the war in Vietnam, even sending Morrison a screenplay that Stone just finished writing but turned the young Stone down. Years later Stone was granted by making this film but sadly it was greatly disliked by so many. Still dispite it's flaws Stone and his crew managed to create one of the best looking concert pictures in recent years.
