Review of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them (2014) by Brandon B — 29 Sep 2014
This might be hard to imagine, but this movie (at least in its Eleanor Rigby or 'Them' version) is sort of like Von Trier's Antichrist by way of Blue Valentine, thematically. To be clear, it's neither as brilliant nor as devastating as those two movies, and it's a relatively straightforward drama by comparison (certainly not visually shocking like Antichrist).
This is the kind of movie that is actually scary in the existential sense that stays with you as meaningful art should. It has flaws, partly due to its abnormal structure and release confusion, but it's boring to be negative about a movie that is worth seeing for a mature emotional experience.
