Was there anyone cooler than Lee Marvin? Marvin leads a rag-tag group of condemned prisoners on a suicide mission during WWII. Certain aspects of the movie (ie the music) haven't aged well, but an all-star cast (especially Marvin, John Cassavetes, and Charles Bronson) handles potentially heavy material with a surprising amount of humor that would come full-force in subsequent war pictures (Robert Altman's masterpiece M*A*S*H* would follow a year later and turn the entire genre on its head).
