Review of The Dirty Dozen (1967) by Katannya Y — 05 Dec 2007
If you ever really stop to think about this film itâ??s really disturbing on so many levels. If you donâ??t think too much about it, itâ??s an exciting and entertaining. The cast of characters are all a bit strange (some more than others) and each a bit of a caricature but thatâ??s what makes this war film so enjoyable.
From the commanding general (Ernest Borgnine) to the truly psychotic sex-depraved ultra-religious convicted soldier (Telly Savalas) each antisocial madman contributes to the appeal of the film. The movie is also careful not to become too idealistic.
Although all the convicts become good commandos they are never good soldiers. None really ever loses the aspect of his personality that led him to prison in the first place and indeed it is the uncontrollable psychosis of one of the Dirty Dozen that starts to make their mission go awry.
This will always remain a great movie to watch. Just donâ??t think about it too much.
