Review of The Diary of Anne Frank (1959) by June Luna W — 17 Dec 2009
It was interesting to see this movie after having toured the house in Amsterdam. The story of Anne Frank itself does not hold the same interest for me as it does some, I find some of the stories of Holocaust more compelling.
That said, the movie is well acted, well directed and provides some tension as people start getting on each others nerves cooped up in a small area with the tension of being discovered. I liked how the movie bookended the story with the father finding the diary and not the speculative what happened to Anne in Auschwitz and Bergan Belsen.
The one glaring flaw is more a problem of time passing than a fault of the movie, director or actors. The dentist is played by Ed Wynn, who went on to play goofy characters in several 60's Disney comedies.
While he did a good job playing the part, one I realized who he was I saw those characters, not the dentist.
