Review of The Devil Wears Prada (2006) by Torah D — 23 Mar 2012
It all comes down to three things - I mean, three people: Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.
Needless to say, Meryl Streep is as thrilling, marvellous, everything-good-there-is-about-an-actress as ever. She's at the very top and no one alive can beat her these days. She's just PERFECT. From drama to comedy, there she is, as the superior Miranda Priestly, humiliating everyone around her with just a glance. As I said before, PERFECT.
Emily Blunt is the second reason why I loved this movie so much. She's as fast at humiliating Andy as she is at being mercyful to her. Besides being gorgeous and hilarious this is an actress for the future. In a few years, she will be one of the greatest of her generation. Together with Amy Adams and Natalie Portman, Emily Blunt will certainly be at the top. Absolutely stunning performnce.
Stanley Tucci delivers an extremely charming interpretation. He can move us or makes us laugh with just a word, a simple word, or even a mere stare, however delicate or discreet. A great, great actor who deserves to be treated like such. Brilliant.
Anne Hathaway is charming too. However, she delivers a performance like every other she has until now: all her characters have the exact same personality. I still don't know whether it is because directors see it's the only thing she can do and give her roles like this or because she transforms every character into the very same one. Yet to unveil.
This a realistic, yet sometimes exaggerated story about balance. Finding the berfect balance between work and personal life is extremely hard, and if one isn't careful, one might get tangled in one of them - especially job. With Streep, Blunt and Tucci, we understand it better.
