Review of The Devil Rides Out (1968) by Richard C — 01 Sep 2008
This would make a good companion piece to "To the Devil, A Daughter" as a double feature. Both star Christopher Lee in Hammer productions of stories based on Dennis Wheatley novels. Personally, I like "To the Devil.
.." better, but this one holds its own pretty well. Chris Lee is the good guy in this one, fighting the powers of Satanic evil. In "To the Devil..." he plays for the other side and seems to have a lot more doing it too.
The atmosphere is great in this one, up until the very end, where it gets more than a little trite, if not downright silly. I must mention how great Charles Gray is in this one, his performance of the evil incarnate Mocata really makes this one worth watching.
