Review of The Devil-Doll (1936) by Henrik T — 01 Mar 2009
I have to say, for 1936 the special effects were quite impressive. it was clear when someone was holding a doll it was a photograph, but the scenes where the dolls would climb on or under furniture were pretty cool.
The story was a typical revenge story with the twist of the ability to shrink humans, in the process shrinking their brains, thus making them subject to mind control.
I initially misread the description thinking it sad shrunken heads, not shrunken humans. I was looking forward to some more human oddities like tod browning had in freaks.
My only question is why bother basing the movie in paris if not a single person appears to be french? just so you could film at the eiffel tower?
