I actually bought this movie after I saw it... I grew up in the era of Daniel Johnston and with all the songs that have been covered by great bands such as Yo La Tengo, I'm a hipster doofus.. so I saw this movie from a different perspective of how a mentally ill guy can express himself thru art both musically and thru his artwork.
