Review of The Devil and Daniel Johnston (2006) by Leif O — 01 Apr 2012
One of the best documentaries I've seen in a number of years. Here is a man (Johnston) who documented so much of his life while he was growing up, that Feuerzeig just had to piece together old 8mm and crappy video footage together to create a thoroughly mesmerizing portrait of a creative genius clawing his way through life, destroying popular musical conventions, and eventually collapsing into a world of religious-fervor that eventually suffocates his lo-fi world.
