Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by David M — 20 Jan 2013
One of the most heart wrenching films on the Vietnam War I've ever seen. Although the beginning scenes are overwhelmingly drawn out which is usually a flaw in Cimino's films, it actually works in The Deer Hunter.
Here it allows the viewer to connect with the characters as close friends before you watch them seperate as they put they're lives on the line in battle...Christopher Walken has never been better, and a classic DeNiro performance.
I also hold this film close to my heart because its the last on screen footage of John Cazale before his untimely death. R.I.P.
