Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Field M — 07 Mar 2013
The first portion of this film drags on while trying to acquaint you with the characters, it fails as your left not caring and bored as a result. A little over an hour in we actually get to Vietnam, this portion of the film is entertaining enough but is complete fiction, it dose not portray what the Vietnam war was really like!!! it shows nothing of the politics of Good Morning Vietnam and non of the harsh reality of Platoon (which veterans have called one of the most accurate depictions of the war) instead the film portrays the Vietnamese to be evil, torturing the Americans by making them play Russian Roulette (which has never been reported by any P.
O.W) and the final portion focuses on the effect this ordeal took on the men, here there was some good acting but it wasn't enough to save this epic waste of time. Above average at best.
