Review of The Deer Hunter (1978) by Probowl 4 — 07 Nov 2015
'The Deer Hunter' seemingly starts off slow but as time goes on you realize that the purpose of doing so is to set the grounds for what is a tense and ultimately depressing story line. The Russian Roulette scenes were among the most tense that I've ever witnessed in a movie and the ending was both shocking and heartbreaking.
3 hours is a long time but it's worth it in this case. Also to note that it seems more depressing at the end by knowing the background of the late John Cazale, who died not long after the production.
5 stars.
