Review of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005) by Missy M — 11 Jan 2008
I once had a Romanian ER Doctor operating on me without anesthesia while he smoked a cigarette; while it certainly sounds funny, and hard to believe, it DID happen to me. This movie tells a similar tale.
It's only funny in the sense that it seems like you couldn't make this stuff up. Unfortunately it happens this way. Not a comedy even for the Romanian mind, certainly a tragedy. Amazingly realistic view of Romanian health care.
Anyone who dreams of "National Health care" should see this film. It's an extremely engaging film, that like a book that's hard to get started, once you figure out what's going on, you cannot put it down.
