Review of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) by Cody U — 01 Jan 2009
I appreciate this film's significance the the sci-fi genre, and it was way before it's time with it's message about our destructive nature and nuclear capabilities. But, I can tell you this is one instance in which I liked the remake far more than the original.
Not because of it's updated special effects and all of the other perks that come with a much bigger budget, but because this one felt much less personal. None of the characters really flesh themselves out and they all just seem flat.
It was a great accomplishment in film making in it's time, though.
