Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Tianna N — 02 Aug 2018
I thought this movie was wonderful! The characters really brought something to the story and the relationship between them in spite of their situation was inspiring. Yes, it's a dystopian YA adaptation BUT I believe it's different from all the other "the government is corrupt let's over throw it" type storylines out there.
In The Darkest Minds, the focus is not on how to bring down the government for what it has done, but just trying to survive and find a place you can be accepted for who you are without consequ, despite what the government is doing, which I think is an incredibly important message for it's intended audience (ahem, teenagers/young adults).
Nevermind the fact that 3/4 of the main cast is people of color, and was directed by a woman of color. All in all, a great movie with great characters you want to root for and a great story line with many important themes.
