Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Francesca G — 02 Aug 2018
Contrary to what other critics believe, I think that this movie was original in its own way. I understand, it has many typical YA tropes and is somewhat predictable at times, but I see it in a different way.
See, this dystopian film was very different in one way: it focused on the characters. What I mean by this is that franchises like THG and Divergent are mainly centered around the society, or the world that the protagonist lives in.
The Darkest Minds is more about the characters themselves and how they act in their society. The relationships they forge with each other are clearly the winning concept here. It's what differentiates this from all others.
Despite the tropes and everything that has been reused time and time again, this movie is amazing for standing out in a way that hasn't been done before.
