Review of The Darkest Minds (2018) by Riley D — 04 Aug 2018
Absolutely amazing. I made an account just to write a review. Hopefully people look at the great audience score. The critics who say that it doesn't hit home or isn't good for what it is or that it doesn't adapt to what the hunger games and divergent have created/left need to take a step back and realize that, as someone who is not the target audience, stop trying to say you know what the target audience thinks or wants.
The movie was cheesy, funny, sad, awkward, dystopian (but while the setting revolves around the dystopia, the plot does not), and a movie that I honestly think deserves way more credit than people are giving it.
Not to mention how closely it follows the first book, from start to finish, or how diverse the cast was (which was definitely a part of the book). If you love YA movies like If I Stay or Divergent, or even if you don't, as long as you're not a professional movie critic, you'll love this one.
