Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Landon M — 10 Jan 2016
Making a movie better than The Dark Knight is hard to do, especially since that movie is my favorite of all time. Christopher Nolan didn't try and top his masterpiece...he made a completely new one.
The Dark Knight Rises is one of the most emotionally powerful comic book movies I have ever seen. The acting, writing, cinematography, directing, visual effects, scale, pace, score, tone, everything is fantastic.
This movie features the best acting I have seen in a comic book movie from all of its ensemble cast, singling out Christian Bale playing the best Bruce Wayne ever, Gary Oldman playing the best Gordon performance ever, Anne Hathaway for pulling off one of the most unique Catwoman incarnations ever, and Tom Hardy's Bane which mad every scene he is in some of the most intense scenes in comic book movie history, and maybe movie history.
Sure, its two predecessors may be better directed, but the experience of this movie is truly unforgettable. The slow burn in the beginning leads up to one of the most intense second halfs I have ever seen, with a climax that leaves me breathless every time I watch it.
It is one of the best third movies in a trilogy ever, and one of my favorite movies of all time. 9.75/10.
