Review of The Dark Knight (2008) by Baylor A — 30 Jun 2017
This is the undisputed zenith of comic book movies. not only because of the superb acting (ironically the weakest link is a stoic Christian Bale, who saves his best work for the films shattering climax), but this is also probably one of the best edited movies you will ever see.
Even if you know what is going to transpire, you are riveted to your seat and wiping your palms clean of the sweat you have built up. Ledger's take on The Joker, while now the stuff of posthumous legend, gets better with repeated viewings, as you find yourself truly appreciating how much the character's maniacal tendencies were captured perfectly by Christopher Nolan's brilliant direction.
This movie broke a lot of ground, not only in it's nearly close to R-rated violence and overall feel (a glass ceiling that was recently shattered by the equally emotional "Logan", but also in it's use of IMAX photography, which blends seamlessly into this movie's overall arc.
A triumph in every conceivable way.
