Review of The Dark Knight (2008) by Brendan N — 18 Jul 2018
This is a crime film, much in line with Heat by Michael Mann. Nolan once again delivers a superhero film that is not your standard, it actually transcends the genre, something Marvel has yet to replicate.
The film is dark and The Joker steals the show. Ledger was not my first choice or anyone's but you have to hand it to Nolan for seeing what nobody else could. I would have liked Harvey Dent to be a little more iconic and survive for a third film, but his fall from grace is the cornerstone of the film.
They leave the film in a great spot but sadly the first two films would be the best in the series, I actually would have liked Nolan to have stepped back after the heights of this film. This is just an incredible film that must be scene to believe.
I actually dismissed the film on release, probably because I had higher hopes for Dent or the film in general. It took the release on Blu-Ray to elevate this on my radar and proudly display it on my shelf.
