Review of The Dark Corner (1946) by Chris . — 27 May 2008
Who thought it was a good idea to cast Lucille Ball in a noir? And a really, really mediocre noir at that? She plays it all wrong: in her attempt to prove she can do a straight role, she makes the character melodramatic and overly eager.
And, in taking all of the icy coolness out of her delivery, the performance falls rather flat. After all, 'icy coolness' is what makes really great noir so subtle, focused and intense. [And you have got to have some serious presence to pull that off.
