Review of The Dark Corner (1946) by Jay N — 09 Jun 2010
An unsuccessful blending of romance and noir. Ditch the love story and the happy ending, and it would be worth at least 1, maybe 1 1/2 more stars. The romance elements assure a happy ending, which dilutes the tension.
It doesn't matter that we know early on who is doing what if we don't know whether the hero will triumph, but when we are fairly certain, then it's no longer suspensful and it's no longer noir.
It has the look of noir, but not the soul. Waste of an excellent cast.
