Review of The Crush (1993) by Rob C — 20 Feb 2010
This film played like the title suggests, a crush, but on a guy much older than the girl onvolved. Nick Eliot (Cary Elwes), an aspiring journalist, moves into the vacant apartment in the back of a couples residence. Here he was to have some peace and quiet for his writing, but that soon changed when he met the couples 14-year-old daughter Darian (Alicia Silverstone). Instantly she developed a crush on him, and he also noticed, but he shrugged it off as being a teenage one that will soon pass when the next guy comes along. Little did he know that crush turned into something more, and Nick was dealing with a predator that was just as deadly as her older counterparts. Maybe even deadlier because of her age. It's a battle that Nick is not certain to win.
Alicia Silverstone was the entire show in her debut film, The Crush. I don't believe this film would have worked with anyone else. She had that sly, seductive, innocent look to her and she used it to her advantage here. Films such as these have unexpected twists at the end, but here we're dealing with one that hints for another tale in which has to be told.
