Review of The Crush (1993) by Katie B — 08 Jul 2011
One movie that comes under heavy fire for being a,"Glorified pedophiles dream". But I respectfully disagree.
One of the movies of a genre I call "Psycho Stalker" has it's interesting moments. Featuring Alicia Silverstone in her first film playing the role of a young fourteen year old girl, infatuated with her twenty-eight year old neighbor.
Oppose to many other movies like Swim Fan and Obsessed, the film plays with a much younger girl than typically seen in the genre. But also show's a bit of reality, a teenage girls crush on an older male figure. And a the thin line of morality of "if she was a bit older". It keeps the classic sense of, extremely hot girl attracted to the average Joe, only this time the attractive girl is the 90's teen queen who is also extremely under-aged. The film also sticks with the classic encounter that shouldn't happen, where morality sets in, and many who see the film become disgusted with the act. Like many modern it keeps the mental break down of the girl where she finally loses it, and is desperate to get her man. And like most in the genre the final confrontation of the film hasn't changed much.
So in short if you seen movies like Obsessed and Swim Fan, you've seen this. Only this one came before them all, and tells the same tale with it's own style.
It was one of the more interesting Psycho Stalker movies of the 90's. I say the movie is worth checking out, but as I say in lots of my reviews; it'll either be a hit, or a miss. The movie hit me, not so much because I had the biggest crush on Alicia Silverstone (no punn intended). But because it had that classic 90's nut job feel to it.
