Read the play many years ago and just now saw the film. Ryder gives a great performance as Abigail Williams. However, the standout performance goes to Daniel Day-Lewis, whose heart-wrenching turn as John Proctor keeps you riveted to the screen.
During his final speech, when he cries out " I WANT MY NAME!", you can feel the pain and anguish, the feeling of his character resigning to his fate. It's heartbreaking. Beautiful work from Mr.
Lewis.
