Review of The Crowd (1928) by Jeff C — 02 Feb 2008
Using sentiment instead of sentimentality, King Vidor's masterpiece is way ahead of its time and often feels more modern than most films made today. Powerful (expressionist) visuals, fluid camera movements and surprisingly realistic performances turn the film into yet another proof of the overall superiority of silent cinema.
Undoubtedly, 'The Crowd' ranks up with the likes of 'Sunrise', 'Greed', and 'The Passion of Joan of Arc'. Unmissable.
