Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Seamus K — 16 Sep 2008
"The Counterfeiters" is based on the memoirs of one of the characters in the movie regarding Operation Bernhard, the largest counterfeiting operation in history. The characters are likable and their actions are understandable.
In short the movie is about a group of Jewish prisoners who agree to aid the Nazi war effort by counterfeiting foreign currency so that they might be spared the horrors of normal life in the concentration camps. This is, again, understandable, and I'd probably laugh in the face of anyone who said they would never do such a thing. However, the question remains: did their actions make them traitors to their people?
