Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Iain S — 20 Jan 2009
Despite the title, this film has an air of authenticity as it details the harrowing conditions endured by a hand-picked bunch of Jewish prisoners who were forced to produce fake British and American currency as part of Nazi efforts to destablise the allies' economies.
The washed out production design and jerky camerawork only add to the sombre atmosphere. Not an enjoyable film, but essential nonetheless.
