Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Jeffrey P — 25 Jun 2011
Artist turned counterfeiter Salomon Sorowitsch (Karl Markovics) is caught try to pass fake dollar bills. He's made part of Project Bernhard, the largest-scale counterfeiting plot on record - to help destabilize the Allied economies.
As the war drags on, though, it becomes increasingly clear that the team will begin to fund the Nazi war machine. Like "Schindler's List", this story involves an opportunist whose views are tested, but the struggle between individual survival and collective impact is still gripping.
Great script and direction from Stefan Ruzowitzky, and the performances are excellent.
