This film executes every element of film-making to perfection: costumes by Jean-Paul Gautier, score by Michael Nyman, Helen Mirren, elaborate stage and lighting techniques - a well-crafted piece of art-house cinema with a lot of depth if you take into account its critique of the French Revolution - but at the same time accessible to a mainstream.
Don't let anyone spoil the ending - just go out and watch it!
