Review of The Conversation (1974) by Richard M — 27 May 2011
Boring. There are a couple of scenes where this film gets interesting, like when the turning point occurs, but aside from that, there's really nothing noteworthy about The Conversation. Nothing really happens throughout this film, except the twist, which you have to wait 90 minutes for.
And honestly, it's a twist I've seen many times before in other things...I just was interested to see how it turned out here. Aside from that, there's not much to say. John Cazale is shitty as always, but he got into this film because he was Coppola's buddy; hell, I love Gene Hackman, but even he's not particularly good here.
I just don't understand why so many people think this is a good movie, because it just isn't. I'd also like to know why a mediocre film got nominated for so many Oscars.
