Review of The Conversation (1974) by C.j. E — 01 Jun 2011
As a character study of a paranoid loner, Hackman is wonderful, while Coppola manages to sharpen an expert thriller into a pointed portrayal of the growing role of technology in our daily lives and the impossibility of privacy, all without ever letting the levels of tension subside or the complicated plot get muddled.
Add to that a superb soundtrack essential to the plot.
