Perhaps more relevant today than it was in 1970, the film presents a metaphor for the play-along-to-get-along world whose silent complicity enables the horrors of an Iraq, a Palestine or a Congo. Escaping isolation through passive acquiescence, the fundamental injustices of the prevailing system are helped perpetuate by its myriad conformists.
