Between Scarfiotti's art design, Delerue's period score, Storaro's lenses and Bertolucci's emerging operatic style, AND the beauty of Dominique Sanda and a young Trignitant juxtaposed against the spineless cruelty of fascist minds, it does not get better than this film classic.
