Review of The Company of Wolves (1984) by Tibor B — 16 Aug 2010
Neil Jordan nails the creepy fairytale / folk tale vibe of werewolf legends, and Angela Carter's screenplay makes sure theres plenty of "beast in man" symbolism in the various coming-of-age nightmares of a young girl.
The special effects are some of the most gruesome werewolf transformations I've seen, even if the animatronic models are a bit obvious compared to todays seamless technology. The unsettling atmosphere helps tie the film together but the disjointed narrative does mean the film lacks a clear, engaging story.
